Seachem Matrix is a high porosity biomedia. Which provides efficient biofiltration. Excellent for the removal of nitrogenous waste. Furthermore, Matrix is a porous inorganic solid about 10 mm in diameter. Each litre of Seachem Matrix provides over 700m`b2 of surface, equivalent to over 170 litres of typical plastic ball media. Plastic bio-materials provide only external surface area. Where as Matrix provides both external and internal macroporous surface area. This supports nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Seachem Matrix, unlike other forms of biomedia, to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter.
